Bible verses for business owners: Bible Verses for Christian Businesswomen

Running a business comes with its own unique set of pressures. You carry the weight of decisions, cash flow, customers, employees, marketing, and the never-ending question of whether you're doing enough. There's no one to hand problems up to. The buck stops with you.

If you're a Christian woman in business, whether you run a side hustle, own a small shop, lead a growing company, or are just starting out, God's Word has a lot to say to you. Here are some Bible verses for business owners, organized by the situations you face most often, along with a few thoughts on each.

When you need wisdom for a decision

Business is full of decisions: which clients to take, what to charge, who to hire, when to expand, when to say no. Some decisions are clear. Many aren't.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

James 1:5

God doesn't scold you for not knowing what to do. He invites you to ask, and he promises to give generously. Before big decisions, and even small ones, pause and ask.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Proverbs 3:5–6

"In all your ways" includes your business. Acknowledging God in your decisions means bringing him into the process, not just asking him to bless what you've already decided.

Proverbs also values wise counsel: "Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed" (Proverbs 15:22). Seek advice from mentors, other business owners, and wise believers.

When you're making plans

Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.

Proverbs 16:3

Planning is wise. Committing those plans to God is wiser. Before you set your quarterly goals or launch a new product, lay your plans before God in prayer.

The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.

Proverbs 16:9

Plan diligently, but hold your plans with open hands. God may redirect you in ways you never expected.

When you're tempted to cut corners

Every business owner faces temptation: to fudge numbers, exaggerate claims, underpay, overcharge, or look the other way.

A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight.

Proverbs 11:1

In the ancient world, merchants used scales to weigh goods. A false balance was a dishonest scale that cheated customers. God hates that kind of deception. He delights in honest business.

God cares about honest pricing, accurate records, truthful marketing, and fair dealing. Integrity in business isn't just good ethics. It's worship.

Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.

Proverbs 10:9

When money is tight

Slow seasons, late payments, unexpected expenses, and lost clients are part of business. Financial stress can keep you up at night.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

This isn't a promise that your business will always be profitable. It's a promise that God will meet your true needs and never abandon you. Your business is one way God provides, but it isn't your ultimate provider. He is.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33

When business is booming

Success brings its own temptations: pride, self-reliance, and forgetting God.

You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth.

Deuteronomy 8:18

Moses spoke these words to Israel before they entered a land of abundance. He warned them not to say, "My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth" (Deuteronomy 8:17). Success can tempt us to forget where every good gift comes from.

When business is good, give thanks. Be generous. Stay humble. Remember that your skills, opportunities, and customers are all gifts from God.

When you're tired

Entrepreneurship can be relentless. There's always one more email, one more task, one more idea. Many business owners struggle to rest.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

Jesus invites you to rest in him. And God built rest into the rhythm of creation, working six days and resting on the seventh. Taking a weekly day of rest is an act of trust: it says your business doesn't depend entirely on you.

It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.

Psalm 127:2

When you're leading people

If you employ or lead others, Scripture calls you to treat them justly and kindly.

Masters, treat your bondservants justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.

Colossians 4:1

Pay fairly. Communicate clearly. Treat your team with dignity. Remember that you, too, answer to God.

When you wonder if your work matters

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:58

Your business can serve customers, provide jobs, support your family, fund generosity, and glorify God. In the Lord, it's not in vain.

Businesswomen in Scripture

Don't forget that the Bible includes businesswomen. Lydia was "a seller of purple goods" (Acts 16:14) whose home became a center for the early church. The Proverbs 31 woman "considers a field and buys it" (Proverbs 31:16) and "perceives that her merchandise is profitable" (Proverbs 31:18).

Running a business isn't outside God's purposes for women. It can be a powerful way to serve him and others.
